The Role:
The Director of Finance plays a critical role in managing the organization's financial health, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing strategic financial leadership to support business growth and success. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Finance provides leadership and direction for the management of all of BHER’s financial assets and financial reporting and is relied upon to ensure internal controls are strong, processes are efficient, effective and innovative, while being a trusted advisor to the CEO and Executive Team.  

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, oversee, and report on the organization's financial planning processes, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial strategy
  • Analyze financial data, trends, and performance metrics to provide insights and recommendations to the Executive Team
  • Monitor financial performance against budget and forecast, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions as needed
  • Conduct scenario analysis and sensitivity testing to assess the potential impact of various business decisions on financial outcomes
  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting in compliance with regulatory requirements and accounting standards
  • Review and oversee the preparation of financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
  • Manage financial audits and reviews conducted by external auditors, ensuring compliance with audit requirements and addressing any audit findings
  • Maintain internal controls and procedures to safeguard assets, prevent fraud, and ensure the integrity of financial reporting and good governance
  • Manage the organization's cash flow, liquidity, and working capital requirements 
  • Develop and implement cash management strategies to optimize cash resources, minimize borrowing costs, and maximize investment returns
  • Manage banking relationships for daily operations and financial risk management
  • Monitor and report on risk exposures mitigation measures to the Executive Team
  • Prepare reports, briefing notes and documentation for the Finance, Audit, Risk Committee and Board of Directors
  • Work in collaboration with the CFO while leading the finance team

Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's or master’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, business administration, or a related field 
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) are desired
  • A combination of education, training, and experience of 10 years or more
  • A proven track record of successfully working with government funded programs 
  • Experience managing a team
  • Strong leadership skills to oversee  financial operations, and provide strategic guidance 
  • The ability to analyze complex financial data, identify trends, and make strategic recommendations based on insights 
  • Strong quantitative skills, attention to detail, and the ability to interpret financial reports and forecasts
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for conveying financial information, presenting analyses, and influencing decision-making
  • A solid understanding of financial regulations, accounting principles (such as GAAP or IFRS), and compliance requirements 
  • Proficiency with financial software systems and technology tools 
  • Highly productive and able to work with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment
