Employers will receive a subsidy of $7.50 an hour ($9.00 an hour if the student is a member of a designated diversity group) for wages to pay each student. The work term will be between 12-16 weeks, with a possibility of 32-week terms.

The START program encourages employers to hire Nova Scotians who require experience and are ready to work. Financial incentives will be provided based on the type of employment and skill level of employee. To earn said incentive, the employer must hire a person from an underrepresented group and work in a location considered rural (less than 10,000).
