Micro-credential Forum 2025: New Solutions to Old Problems

On February 27, BHER CEO Val Walker and Chief R&D Officer Matt McKean spoke on a panel at the Micro-credential Forum 2025 in Toronto, moderated by eCampusOntario CEO Robert Luke

Val also had the pleasure of moderating a discussion on talent for innovation in Canada featuring Arvid Gupta, Professor at the University of Toronto, Jeannette Hanna, Chief Strategist at Trajectory, and Ann Marie Vaughan, President and CEO of Humber Polytechnic.

The theme for this year’s Forum was “Bridging Skills Gaps, Building Futures.” Val and Matt shared insights on how business + higher education partnerships can enhance the role of micro-credentials in addressing regional skills needs and improving productivity. They discussed how post-secondaries have a valuable opportunity to make competency-based education a force to strengthen Canada’s economy by combining work-integrated learning (WIL) with micro-credentials.
