BHER goes north of 60°. Chief R&D Officer Matthew McKean and WIL Director Andrew Bieler were in Whitehorse, Yukon to meet and convene business + higher education leaders in the region.
Highlights included a sit down with Lesley Brown, President & Vice-Chancellor of Yukon University. Lesley is leading the charge on transitioning the institution (formerly Yukon College) and its 12 campuses to a university. That means expanding its programming and research capacity, while also ensuring that the institution remains responsive to the unique northern communities it serves. It's a big challenge, but an exciting one, and BHER is keen to find ways to work with Lesley and her team!
In partnership with ECO Canada, one of BHER's funded WIL delivery partners, and Yukon University, BHER also hosted a networking lunch at NORTHLIGHT INNOVATIONS LIMITED, a super cool innovation hub complete with a makerspace, coworking space, and start-up supports. The lunch brought together green economy leaders to share stories, exchange best practices, and forge connections.
Finally! We were also there to support an afternoon Net Zero Bootcamp, funded by BHER, and delivered by our WIL partner ECO Canada with Yukon University. The BHER team was grateful for the opportunity to be in the Yukon as part of our WIL partnership work, our commitment to working collaboratively across Canada to build a green skills-ready workforce, and connecting business + higher education leaders to drive change and build a stronger economic future.
