Red Deer Polytechnic joins BHER membership to help tackle healthcare sector workforce challenges

Canada’s healthcare challenge is increasingly a workforce challenge. As advancements in technology enhance system capacity, they also exacerbate the need for highly skilled healthcare talent. That’s why the Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER) is excited to welcome Stuart Cullum, President of Red Deer Polytechnic (RDP), as a new member to contribute their expertise in developing a strong healthcare workforce, especially in rural and regional communities.

Through their planned Healthtech Centre for Applied Learning and Innovation, RDP is developing new and innovative programming to produce and deploy talent more effectively. This project strengthens regional workforce pipelines while advancing applied research and innovation to address the complex and growing healthcare workforce demand in rural Alberta.

“To support the long-term sustainability of healthcare services in Alberta and across the country, we need to encourage innovation, address workforce needs, and enhance partnerships with industry and community organizations. BHER membership will enhance Red Deer Polytechnic’s capacity to collaborate with industry and post-secondary leaders, to introduce new forms of practice and strengthen workforce development, particularly within rural and remote communities.”

- Stuart Cullum, President of Red Deer Polytechnic

“Because a successful healthcare system is necessary for all of our economic and social priorities, BHER is focused on expanding its membership to include healthcare and life sciences leaders. Red Deer Polytechnic’s experience in training future healthcare professionals, with a focus on collaboration and connecting learners, industry, community partners, and cross-disciplinary experts, will help BHER and its members address health workforce capacity and accelerate innovation across healthcare sectors.”

- Valerie Walker, CEO of Business + Higher Education Roundtable

As part of BHER’s Health Leadership Table, RDP will work alongside other BHER members to explore partnerships, projects, and initiatives that strengthen Canada's talent, research, and innovation capacity.
