New healthcare technologies can improve care only if health professionals are prepared to use them and health systems can successfully adopt them. The Business + Higher Education Roundtable (BHER) is pleased to welcome Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD-Canada) as a new member. BD-Canada will bring its medical technology expertise and experience working across industry, education, and clinical care to BHER’s national network, Health and National Security Leadership Tables.
BD-Canada is already demonstrating what this collaboration can achieve. In April, the company joined BHER member Humber Polytechnic and William Osler Health System in launching a first-of-its-kind Laboratory Sciences Academic Practice Partnership.
The partnership combines Humber’s academic expertise, Osler’s clinical and simulation environments, and BD’s medical technology to better connect education with real clinical needs. Its work includes co-designing curriculum, expanding simulation and teaching labs, developing micro-credentials and clinical placement pathways, and creating a “living lab” where students, educators, clinicians, and industry experts can test new approaches together.

As part of BHER’s Health Leadership Table, BD-Canada will work alongside business and post-secondary leaders to strengthen healthcare talent pathways, connect skills development with emerging technologies, and identify partnerships that can improve health system capacity and performance. BD-Canada’s experience moving between technology development, workforce training, and frontline clinical needs will help the table focus on practical opportunities that can be implemented and scaled.
BHER brings together CEOs and post-secondary presidents from across Canada to align talent, skills, research, and innovation with the country’s economic and social priorities.
