Fanshawe is a comprehensive college serving the greater London region by providing flexible learning arrangements and experiential education opportunities developed in response to labour market needs. One of Ontario’s largest colleges - with four campuses in London, Simcoe, St. Thomas and Woodstock - Fanshawe serves close to half a million people with a promise to educate, engage, empower and excite.
The overall objective of Fanshawe’s work-integrated learning (WIL) project was to engage students in micro-placements and innovative industry-partnered events with local employers in the manufacturing, construction, transportation, and clean technology sectors. The micro-placements advanced students’ practical skills development and build a talent pipeline in the green economy for local small-to-medium enterprises. This program resulted in 165 WIL opportunities including environmental testing, electric battery testing, and industry partnered events.
Students also had access to AI career transition tools for their sector to better prepare them for the green workforce, an opportunity to engage directly with employers to understand testing standards and green product development, and build business connections with local green economy employers. Upon completion, students received a certification of completion and co-curricular record to add to their professional portfolio.
