George Brown College's Drive Ability Opening Doors Program

Providing students with real-world experience is one of BHER member George Brown College's biggest priorities.

Through a partnership funded by the Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development (MLTSD), the Drive Ability Opening Doors program provides students, recent graduates, and apprentices from various academic disciplines with paid work placements in the automotive and advanced manufacturing sectors. GBC partnered with six other post-secondary institutions (Conestoga College, Fanshawe College, Georgian College, Mohawk College, Sheridan College, and York University) to deliver 600 placements across Ontario. This collaboration with other Ontario institutions also allows GBC to share work-integrated learning best practices and work together to find ways to better align education with the automotive sector.
