Connecting leaders. Building capacity. Driving change.

Field Placements

A field placement is an intensive, part-time or short-term project: some field placements are two months long. Field placements don’t require the supervision of a registered professional and aren’t a part of professional certification. They are typically unpaid.

Things to Consider

Bolstering Productivity

  • Students thrive when working in teams and in a shared space. This gives them the opportunity to reflect on past learnings, take on challenges as a team, and engage in work that is meaningful and increases productivity.

Workforce Management

  • The shift to remote work can be challenging; consider ways to help students interact with each other so that they can still build essential skills commonly learned through face-to-face interaction.
  • Opportunities to mentor and supervise students seeking practical experience can help develop the leadership skills of current employees. Consider having clear, detailed resources for supervisors to access to support their own learning and skill development while participating in WIL.

Benefits & Transferable Knowledge and Skills

  • Opportunity to connect theory and practice.

One thing I think is missing is the connecting the learning to the workplace and the workplace learning back to the academic study. So, that strong connection between like learning in an academic setting and applying it in the real world and just making more sense of the learning and connecting it with the real world. So, for me that's the biggest benefit of WIL.
