Senior Research Associate

The Role:

We’re hiring a Senior Research Associate to help lead applied research that drives change in Canada’s skills, education, and employment systems. You’ll work across BHER’s research portfolio to shape and deliver high-impact projects—from designing methods and engaging stakeholders to analyzing data and turning insights into action.

This is a role for someone who thrives at the intersection of evidence and impact. Reporting to BHER’s Research Manager, you’ll contribute to research strategy, represent BHER in external conversations, and help mentor junior team members. You’ll also collaborate across departments to ensure our work is inclusive, accessible, and aligned with BHER’s mission.

The ideal candidate brings strong qualitative research skills, a strategic mindset, and a deep commitment to collaboration, equity, and systems-level thinking.

What You’ll Do:

Research Strategy + Design

  • Lead literature reviews, environmental scans, and stakeholder consultations (e.g., interviews, focus groups, co-design sessions).
  • Shape research questions and co-develop research tools and protocols (e.g., question guides, workshop materials).

Data Collection + Analysis

  • Conduct and analyze interviews, focus groups, and workshops with youth, employers, and educators.
  • Lead thematic analysis and synthesize findings into actionable insights.

Stakeholder Engagement + Communication

  • Represent BHER in meetings with project partners, roundtables, and presentations.
  • Translate complex findings into clear, compelling reports, memos, and briefs for project funders and leadership audiences.

Mentorship + Internal Collaboration

  • Support and mentor Research Assistants and Coordinators.
  • Contribute to internal learning, project planning, and cross-departmental collaboration.

What You Bring:

Must-Haves

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in a relevant field
  • At least 7 years of experience conducting applied research, with a strong track record in non-academic or cross-sectoral settings.
  • Experience designing and facilitating stakeholder engagement activities
  • Strong writing and communication skills across multiple formats
  • Excellent critical thinking, time management, and project execution

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with co-design, systems mapping, or community-led research
  • Familiarity with disability inclusion, equity frameworks, or intersectional research
  • Bilingualism (English/French)

What We Offer:

  • A salary of $74,256 – $90,168 (candidates with exceptional experience may be considered at the higher end)
  • A comprehensive benefits package
  • Flexible remote work from anywhere in Canada
  • Generous paid time off policy
  • A mission-driven, collaborative team that values authenticity and impact
