The Emily Carr University of Art + Design is a learning community devoted to excellence and innovation in visual arts, media arts, and design.

Through “Pathways for Creative Futures”, Shumka Centre for Creative Entrepreneurship at  Emily Carr University is collaborating with local businesses to launch an inaugural curricular Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) program that will introduce 140 unique WIL experiences for Studio Arts and Animation students.

This program will enable the integration of WIL opportunities into courses as an innovative and novel approach to re-leverage and re-imagine WIL for the creative industry and provide students with direct contact with industry experts and an opportunity to gain the skills necessary to participate in these fields upon graduation.

The Studio Arts stream will focus on equipping students with the practical skills, entrepreneurial mindset, and work experience necessary to succeed as creative practitioners in the arts sector. The Animation students will work on applied projects to solve real-world problems for businesses while building their professional networks, and enhancing their skills and work experience.

“Pathways for Creative Futures” will bolster institutional capacity to create impact by increasing opportunities for equity-deserving groups accessing quality WIL programming; providing degree-aligned WIL connections with Arts and ICT (Animation + New Media) organizations, and enhancing WIL supports for activating Arts and ICT (Animation + New Media) sectors and ecosystems.
