Startup hires young professionals in a WIL capacity to design mentorship programs for clients.
En Point's mission is to support one million people in making the right connections at the right stages in their careers so that they can lead fulfilling lives. As a company, we have been hiring young professionals and students in WIL positions from co-ops, to internships to corporate residences, since 2017. To date, we have hired 13 young professionals in a WIL capacity, two of whom turned into part-time positions post-WIL opportunity. We have been able to offer these WIL opportunities thanks to the federal and provincial government's support to offset onboarding and training time costs. We've hired students in the second to last or final year, but often we hire those whose first foray into working in an office outside the academic setting is their work term with us.
At En Point, we believe that learning by experience is one of the most powerful teachers. We aspire to be able to give co-op students a meaningful opportunity to explore their interests, passions, and their areas of development, strengths and weaknesses. Also, as a start-up, it is great to have individuals who are willing to grow with us. Oftentimes, these young professionals are helping us create frameworks, foundations, and processes. Those who are interested in entrepreneurship, small business, and really, helping people, succeed in their work terms with us because of how we lay it out for them and work together. At the beginning of their terms, we ask about what they're aiming to take away from their work terms, and try to align these to our needs and expectations. They are also provided an opportunity to work closely with supervisors and clients, and learn from constructive feedback.
We value young professionals' perspectives and experiences. There's no way we can keep up with technological advancements by ourselves, especially with digital media and trends within their demographic. Having that fresh perspective keeps the company grounded, especially given the nature of our work, where we help clients to design mentorship programs to support young professionals. While we can get feedback from our clients, having their perspectives internally greatly improves the services we can offer our clients.
